New Year's Cape!

So I've been wanting to do a cape for Juliet for easily a year but just couldn't figure it out!  So I went to trusty old YouTube where I've learned pretty much everything and got a great and really easy tutorial for cape making. I did it in cream and light blue to go with her Cinderella dress.  She's asleep right now (where I should be too!) so I'll have to snap a pic in the morning.

Retro Indie Market

So I just paid for my booth at Retro Indie Market for February 12.  This is an eclectic mix of vendors to say the least but they appreciate handcrafted items.  I did one this summer and though it didn't seem worthwhile  at the time I ended up selling 14 dresses from those 6 hours! So now I begin the frantic process of crafting enough beautiful items to fill a booth.  At least this time I will have a much better selection of goods the newest of which are from Muximaus Fiber Haus! Trust me when I tell you these are great gifts for any occasion. I'll keep you posted!

FYI

My crowns are selling very well!  They are made of wool felt and are all sewn or felted.  They do have some rhinestone embellishments so if you have a toddler just let me know and I'll embellish with alternative methods.  The crowns are $22 and well worth it.  My Juliet has one on her head every day.  The teddy bears are 100% corriedale merino wool.  They make a great new baby gift (there are no dyes or toxins, detergents or other nasties in these bears).  The bears are $15 and I can put a face or bowtie, heart etc. on there if you desire.  The owls are $9 and can be done in white, light brown or dark brown.  I can also make it an ornament or just a handheld stuffy. I felt it!

So I've discovered a new art that I had never heard of until now.  Felting!  It is a seriously addictive art form using a puff of wool and a needle or soap!  I learned of felting through my daughter's school, Sea Star Initiative in Boca Raton which is an emerging Waldorf school.  If you've never heard of the Waldorf philosophy, its definitely worth checking out at whywaldorfworks.com.  Anyway, in the school the children are taught through storytelling, puppetry and play.  They are encouraged to play with things from nature, wood, wool, silk, etc.  You can't find these things in regular stores and a lot of them are so basic that being the crafty (and thrifty) person that I am I decided I could make my Juliet some of her own toys.  Here are some pics of my new obsession.    PS I'm still making my peasant dresses!

Exhale!

Well I finally did it.  I completed all the dress samples for my MuxiMaus line.  We had an awesome time taking the photos for my website!  I am a bit concerned that I will have "zoolander" face in all the pictures.  Cross your fingers.  I saw two of the pictures already and they were really good. Melissa, Stella, Simone and Juliet made excellent models and Cynthia Lawrence from Mau Loa Photography was fabulous. Now I take a small break.  I really want to make a hat to go with the dresses so I bought 2 patterns from Etsy.  The first one from Poppy and Lola  was not so good.  The pattern and directions were very vague and there was an error in the pattern that cost me a 1/4 yard of fabric and I still ended up without a hat.  They did email me right away with help and offered to give me a refund which I will be taking them up on!  The second pattern I got was from Indietutes for a bush hat.  This hat pattern was much better! The hat came out adorable although Juliet is asleep so I haven't tried it on her yet. I think she'll love it! Now I want to come up with a really cute flower.

Creative minds don't sleep!

So it's almost 1 am. and I finally got out of bed because my mind won't shut off!  I'm thinking of color combinations and hats and hairbands, chokers of leather and crystal etc.  to go with my dresses.   I'm planning a photo shoot in the coming weeks with my choices of my first "line". Cynthia Lawrence of Mau Loa photography will be taking the photos of Juliet and me modeling our "oh so cool " peasant dresses.  If only there was more time in the day!
